One overwinter project is to fit solar to the boat and decided to go with a Morningstar controller as I'd had good experience with their product on previous boat.

For an electrical numpty making decisions in sourcing products to match the needs of the different bits requires advice from the individual manufacturers.

I found help from the solar panel and supplier of the new batteries relatively poor ( no names no pack drill) but the bit in the middle, advice from Morningstar was great.

Reaction from them by e-mail on queries was within 12 hours despite the time difference to USA, succinct and clear - others I waited days for or got no response.

Just sayin - thanks Morningstar.

Thanks for the reassurance. I've already got a Morningstar MPPT controller and recently needed some aftersales support from the UK supplier. Their response was decidedly unenthusiastic and it was even suggested that I approach Morningstar direct. I have yet to do so but it's good to know that I'm unlikely to be fobbed off when I do.

Mike,

Agree I found the retailers response poor, not in term's of quickness but knowledge of the product they were selling.

Perhaps I've become cynical after several tries at contacts for different products and getting either a poor or no response at all.

In days past, we had local chandlers, with good product knowledge, take Henry at Foxs, for instance. You could go into Foxs, or Seamark Nunn and see the products on display, have a play with one, get some decent information from the guys in the chandleries.

People have chosen to buy from online sellers, whose staff, in many cases, no pretty much nothing about the products they wrap up and post out. Many buy purely on price and seem to have little regard for the quality of what they buy, many seem happy to buy cheap Chinese copies from the likes of Ebay.

We reap what we sow, perhaps ?
