TBH this is what I thought was going to occur winter 2011/2012, but now will occur 2012/2013... all good IMO

Harbour Development
The Harbour Commissioners have decided to go ahead with Phases 2 and 3 of the Harbour Development plan during the winter of 2012/13.
These phases involve a new quay wall in the south west corner of the inner harbour close to the bridge, a new crane in this area and an environmentally friendly wash down facility.
The commercial berthing area will be rearranged. *In addition the existing crane on South Quay will be dismantled and paving will be extended along the edge of South Quay to the Harbour Office.
A pontoon walkway will be positioned along the face of South Quay, and a new 'T' shaped pontoon installed off South Quay with berths for 15 visiting boats.
Letters of intent have been issued to contractors for the work that is due to start at the beginning of October and completed for Easter 2013.

* * * * * * * * The value of the work is just under £1 million.

I must admit I haven't got over the sight of those new pink pontoons by the lifeboat.

Also the loss of the non walk ashore alongside pontoons just before the bridge (the red pontoons for thirty footers) is a real loss. They are now for residents only. The atmosphere on those pontoons was great, there was always something going on or people to say hello to, especially at weekends. I think there is a real danger of Yarmouth turning into a sterile marina full of finger berths rather than the charming and quirky harbour it used to be.
