More RCD (CE) stuff Date of \"Build\" Home Completed Craft

All the stuff I can find refers to "build date" being the determinant of if a RCD CE certificate being required.

At what point is the craft "built". Is it when the hull was moulded? or fitted out? or when commissioned?

I had problems with this but can't remember the answer, sorry! I built a Hunter Ranger 265 from a kit purchased in June 1998 and launched 2001. When I came to sell in 2005 I was told vessel needed CE cert. It transpired my kit was the last one out of the yard before the cut off date (about June 15th?), after which Hunters fitted the gas systems before releasing the kits /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. I was mad because Hunters never told me of this change.
I had to get a corgi man to accredit the gas installation. I was faced with a £3,000 fee for getting the measurements/stability testing done. Fortunately, after my complaints Hunters agreed to visit my boat and were able to grant me the certificate retrospectively. A scary time! From what I remember the crucial date was saledelivery of the kit

The difference with this situation is that kit boats are covered by different rules. Whoever signed up to this needs to be shot.

Well - for insurance purposes it's the date on which 'the keel is laid'. I discovered this whilst enquiring about insurance for a 1980's Coromandel kit hull I've bought, the fitting-out of which was never started. Essentially it's a new hull, except from an insurer's point of view (!).

The RCD date is the date when the vessel is "placed into service ", i.e. a date which suits 'them' best, rather than 'us'.
(Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean that they're not out to get you ... )

Don't forget we live in a NANNY State and all these rules are in place to protect us from everyone else and of course ourselves .... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Does any of it really matter .. It's a yacht .. It floats .. Just .. So what's the problem .. 25 States say it has to conform is the problem .. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Sorry if you've been through this stuff already.

My Trimaran is excluded because it's a canoe (I say so) and because the main hull is older than 5 years old (a fair bit older)
