Four more pictures from our solo trip to Caen earlier this year. We were very lucky with the weather. We seem to see more places and get luckier when we go on our own than when we go on the MBM cruises. It seems the weather loves a crowd of excited expectant power boaters. Loves to ruin things more often than not.

Honfleur. Very pretty. One big eatery

Pegasus Bridge

Rick,
Did you manage to stop at Pegasus Bridge?
Moored there, must be at least 15 years ago before they removed the original bridge. There was a small quay on the portside next to the bridge. There was plenty of water there then as I was in a Fleming at the time.
Cheers

If you're talking to me, name is Paul :)

No, we didn't stop at the Pegasus bridge. Read about it and would have liked to stop but we were in convoy through the bridges to Caen. Caen was our main objective and we didn't really have time to deflect. I often do that. Have an objective / challenge in mind then miss good stuff on the way. Need to assign more time to stop & smell the roses.

Caen is nice. Marina very central. Need to get through Ouistreham lock and then down the river to Caen itself.

Don't know if you know but you have to travel along the river starting at the 1st bridge at a pre-determined time. There are only 3 or 4 times a day. Then as you go along the other bridges open in sequence. There are only 3 bridges. The bridge times are posted in the Captinairies at Ouistreham and Caen marinas. So you normally end up in a mini convoy.

We went through the Ouistreham lock during the day and then stayed overnight travelling down the river the next day.

You can get fuel at Ouistreham marina (Automated)

Big market in Caen at the weekend. Can't remember if it was Sat or Sun.

Not very much visitor space at either Ouistreham or Caen and we went end May. Hardly high season ! At Honfleur there was loads of space. I wonder if it's the case that not many sea going visitors head for Caen via Ouistreham so perhaps not much space normally needed.
