I see in today's DT that the rest of the world have woken up to something we all know. It appears that the dreaded gull is rapidly overtaking rats as the number 1 'vermin'.

The good news on Radio 4 is that because there are no more free dinners from the fishermen the gulls are moving inland to peck on discarded big macs. (What else would you do with a big mac?)

Gulls and rats in league.

Granville island, Vancouver. There is a tourist mall near the marina with loads of take-away food stands, and a seating area just outside. It was probably designed by an underground group of gull-fanciers. As you walk out the gulls are waiting just above the door to swoop, a dozen or more, like straight out of "Birds". They aim to knock the food out your hand, whereupon several large brown rats appear out of the sea-wall rocks and scurry off with the takings, which they and the gulls then divvy up.

Easy pickings indeed. Unlike London's pigeons, both gulls and rats are very fat, glossy and healthy looking.

Re: Gulls and rats in league.

27 minutes for a gull to 'dine in style' at the local tip and 23 hours 33 minutes to wreak havoc

Gulls must be the only vermin that you need a permit to destroy!
