I am also buying a set of new fenders and have read previous posts. However I wonder if anyone had any views on the cheaper inflatable fenders as advertised by Force 4 :

I am perfectly happy with the bog standard majoni type with covers on them, but I have used these type of inflatable ones on a friends boat and was impressed by how light and easy they are......the only snag is that I think my friend has the expensive ones and. I’m not sure I care enough to justify spending north of £100 per hypalon fender !

The force 4 ones look ok, but has anyone tried them ? I’m also not sure if I would be able to put a sock around them - I was thinking of buying that 5m roll stuff and just cutting to fit.

All comments welcome.

I'm struggling to think of a situation where you would want to deflate a fender and inflate it again when needed.
For example, a big storm is coming and you are all moored Med style and you know your neighbors boat isn’t tied up well. A few large inflatable fenders in the lazaret would be handy. But they are expensive

being too light for me would be the issue then. No point in having the wind swing them about. I'd also be concerned as to strength. If it's anything like the material on a tender I'd imagine they'd pop just when you need them most.

Well these force 4 one’s aren’t especially expensive. They are £36.95 vs £200 odd for the fancy ones......Which was kind of my point !

Not worried about wind. Popping is definitely an issue, but the expensive ones don’t pop. Anyone actually tried these force 4 ones ?

Cant say I have, sorry. The thought doesn't grab me but I can appreciate times when they'd be useful. Just not as the staple fenders.

Definitely some good ideas in there :).

In serious fendering situations car tyres are hard to beat. They may mark your topsides but they don't jump out and take a fair bit of punishment which would destroy conventional inflatable fenders.

Those two marina queens dont know what punishment is Gus :D
