Went to Bembridge Saturday morning for the first trip of the year. Very pleasant although a bit "popply". Ran over a lobster pot just past the Portsmouth forts, fortunately did not foul. Phew!!
Bit late going in but depth just OK. Min' 0.4 metres under keel.
Went to the marina end to find that it is now all permanent moorings. They have extended the floating visitors pontoon but no power yet, tho' planned. Bloody miles to walk anywhere. Bit of a disappointment.
This combined with forecast F5/7 (is that called hedging your bets or what) for Sat' eve / Sunday morning, we decided to go back to Shamrock Quay on the evening tide, and eat at TAP's restaurant in the marina complex. 1st class.

Left about 18.30, rough 2 or 2.5 hrs before HW (neaps). Got to the narrow entrance and there was a sailing yacht aground right in the middle of the already narrow channel. Only just aground as not healing or showing excessive a/foul, so decided to try edging round. Bad idea, should have waited until yacht gone!!
Chink, chink. Aground too. Floated off within 10 min's and no apparent damage.
All for the sake of waiting another half hour.

So it can happen to anyone. (thats what I told SWMBO anyway)

Done it myself in Bembridge entrance trying to get out of the way of a yottie. Its worth while taking an amble over to the Baywatch cafe at LW to see how narrow the entrance channel really is
Good thing those Brooms have got a bit of a keel, eh?

had a yacht nearly get us aground outside port solent a few weeks back. For some reason they had their bow tide to the waiting pontoon but had let the stern drift out across the channel. They didn't seem to worried and were just sat there as we came out the lock. We made it very obvious they were in the way!!
