I want one of the big grey [--word removed--] off things !

That would sort the Thames rowers support boats with their big mouth megaphones

Looked like they gave them one chance to stop , then if ignored, the gloves were off.

Lucky nobody was killed. Can you imagine the outcry in UK if the police operated like that!

[/ QUOTE ]If they had got close to the G8 beach I'm sure the helicopters would have been ordered to open fire, so the tough action by the police boats probably saved their lives. They had enough chances to stop or run away from the beech. I agree on the surface it looks heavy handed, but what are the police to do. UK police have been know to use sufficient force when it's called for.

Lucky they weren't protesting in the USA, they would have been taken out by helicopter gun ships long before they got that close to the G8 zone. Post 9/11 it's play safe by shooting first and ask questions about appropriate response later! Just hope I'm never unlucky enough to be in a plane that's hijacked but some looper, cause for sure it will be shot down over unpolulated areas or over water without hesitation.

I am not sure even the German government would have survived their police shooting Greenpeace protesters. Heavy handed dealing with 'innocent' protesters who were carefully watched even as they launched their boats.

Greenpeace.

Frankly, a disgusting show of paramilitary force, which I can tell you is almost uncontrollable once they are let loose.

Can't understand what make you think it's uncontrollable.
My impression is that they strictly followed some engagement rules defined by their commander - not more, not less.

But it's your view of the "show" which is more interesting.
I had the opportunity to talk with some greenpeace activists some months ago, though not those in the ribs (well, not afaik!).
Trust me when I say that they expected - and even looked for - some police reaction.
See, it's not only the police that knew everything about these protesters, it's also true the other way round.
We wouldn't be here discussing what happened, if they wouldn't have brought the police to react.
Those guys in the ribs are probably happy to have caused what you call a disgusting show, because they know that someone else will agree with your impression.
But they also know, as well as any reasonable person do, that the policemen were only doing their job.

They were charged with protecting some of the most tempting terrorist targets in the world. I glad you knew 100% they were greenpeace and not Al Quaeda with a greenpeace flag. Seems the police on duty that day did not benefit from your absolute and unshakeable confidence that people carrying a greenpeace flag are actually from greenpeace. Shame on them for not taking a chance with a large group of world leaders. . . . . .

Can anyone from Greenpeace tell us exactly how hooning around in high powered RIBS helps save the planet?

Didnt have any problem with the police action, just recognising that in UK the police would have had their hands tied behind their backs!

[/ QUOTE ]Sorry but I don't agree, and anyway we are only know part of the story - from where? The media - Hmmm! In a post 9/11 world if you play with fire, etc?

I don't know if the protestors were green peace or not, but if they were green peace as Deleted User says, what are they of all people achieving by racing around in high octane ribs. The police didn't go looking for them or trouble, but they under the media spot light went looking for the police and trouble - tis called propaganda and media manipulation down our way! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I'm just glad nobody was badly hurt in the end, because their loonatic actions could have and clearly nearly did cause loss of life - for what - the prime slot on the 6 o'clock news? Loopers the lot of the lot of them, hope they've all been locked up for a few weeks under a multitude of charges to teach them a lesson in democracy and real people power - society power!

The grey boat is originally a Swedish patrolboat, there are two models, Stridbåts 90E and Stridbåt 90H, difference is that 90E is one engine and about 12 meters long while 90H is two engines and about 15 meter long if i recall correctly.

90E is fiberglass while 90H is aluminuim. Used in the archipelago to do troop transport etc. The 90E isnt a joyride if the waves are higher than 1 meter, think the german police has 90H models.
