I have a 4 year old eberspacher D4 that's not behaving itself. After a winter of zero usage I decided to give it a treat by servicing it - dismantling, clean up and reassembly with new gaskets and a new glow plug screen. However its not working properly - if goes thro the process of starting (lots of smoke both black and white) but never producing the 'jet roar' of a well fired eberspacher. it eventually shuts itself down.

According to the fault codes shown on the 801 timer I have
F0 - 0
F1 - 52
F2 - 62

now according to my guide 52=safety time exceeded and 62=open circuit - potentiometer.

I have checked the wiring and all seems to be in place. Has anyone got any idea whats wrong?

Thanks in advance

Check the pot itself for open circuit, assuming you have checked the cabling and terminals already from the question.

I've just discovered this guide : http://www.t3-infos.de/images/Eberspaecher_Airtronic_D2_D4.pdf. This describes fault code 62 as
Potentiometer values outside of range on Thermostat (switch)
Check resistance between pins 6 and 7 at B1.
Resistance value for interruption between pins > 7175 W
Normal value: 1740 W - 2180 W (± 80 W )
If resistance value is O.K., replace control unit. If not replace thermostat/(
switch).

Q: is the 'control unit' referred to here, the main ECU i.e. the expensive one costing £300 ish......?
