More about Raymarine ST60\'s

I originally posted about this <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ybw.com/cgi-bin/forums/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=pbo&Number=500181&page=2&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=93&part=>here</A> but that has disappeared onto page 3 of the index already.

The issue is that my Speed instrument keeps changing from knots to Km/h and it appears that several others have the same problem. Raymarine initially said there was a bug in the older version of software, but mine is the latest version.

This is their latest response -
"V3.02 is the latest software revision for the ST60 speed instrument. An earlier version of the software suffered from random unit changes when the speed resolution was set to 0.00. Try changing the resolution to 0.0 and see whether the problem still occurs. Whatever the result I think we should take a look at your speed instrument and see if we can replicate the fault and then repair or replace."

So you can try changing the resolution but I think mine is already at 0.0, and anyway I should still be able to use either option. Alternatively take it up as an issue with Raymarine, or live with it !

If you have the same problem I'll be happy to collate the evidence if you post on here or PM me, so we each have a stronger case to argue. Clearly you will need to argue that case yourself as you see fit.

Personally, I am going back to the dealer for a replacement.

Re: More about Raymarine ST60\'s

I suspect my problems with this only started after I had fitted an
ST 4000+ in the system,
I have suspected that it is the interface between these two units that is to blame
although I have no proof of this ,I ampretty sure we never had this problem
until the steering gear was fitted.

We have this problem, except that ours changes from knots to mph. I have not been able to see any pattern to the change.

I always have the resolution set to 0.0

I think it happens about once every 10 trips - certainly not every time but not rare.

Re: More about Raymarine ST60\'s

Thanks Ian,

Mine happens at least once per hour !

Have spoken to the dealer who fitted it, and they have not hestitated in taking full responsibility for getting it replaced via Raymarine, hopefully within a week.

Raymarine themselves would have been prepared to resolve it with me directly, but that involves taking the unit off the boat and sending it back to them for testing and repair.

So to anybody who feels they can't live with the problem:
- contact the dealer from whom you bought it, if still under warranty.
- or speak to another dealer, if you have the full on-board warranty
- contact Raymarine Customer Support (on-line) who will accept responsibility but expect you to send the unit back to them.

Hope this helps, even if only a little.

Real problem..

Mine also changes the log units. It is just three years old but this phenomenon only started last year.

Maybe a strength in numbers situation?

Re: More about Raymarine ST60\'s

Just to say that I emailed Raymarine last week pointing them to the original thread. they have responded and asked for more info, which I have provided. They did imply that they were not aware that this was a widespread problem.

Will post any further replies.
