I got quite a good price from Bennetts - but I did phone them.

It is incredible that companies go to the trouble of having email and then ignore it. I never heard back from Crusader Sails, so I'm spending my money with Arun instead.

Oh, I have a big beefy manly motorbike incase anyone thinks I ride a moped!!

Try Taylor Price in Newmarket - they insure anything and at cracking prices. They insured me on a moped for only £121

If it is only the moped ,3rd party should be ok in europe?
what the british insurance companies forget to tell you is
that if you insure the vehicle in UK they have under EU law
to include minimum cover in rest of europe .Whowever if you
go into your insurance office and say' I need cover for europe '
they will imediately put such a high price on it as to make it uneconomic.
it is the same if you own a car and go in and say I need a Green card for
12 months -according to most companies it is impossible.
and they also forget to tell you that all they can charge for is difference between
3rd party and fully comp.
Have lived out of uk for many years and gave up trying to insure in UK years ago
all other EU countries insurance companies will cover you througout EU. automatically
.

Hmmm - not so young, but never had a bike policy so started with ZERO no claims discount (you can't transfer the car value - it only applies to the one policy). As for my driving record well - I've never been caught <G>. Policy was fully comp so maybe that makes a difference.

Re: No no, david

This is a foldy motorbike bike for use abroad - france etc, yes?

Bikes aren't seen as "serious" road machines in france. You have to park on the pavement, not use up road space or a car space. Small bikes...aren't even seen as road vehicles.

I asked about this in france: the marina people, the motorbike shops etc told me to put the name of the boat on the back of the bike - effectively, little bikes are a "tender" a non-serious road vehicle essentuially incapabale of killing others - no papers nothing. Loads of big boats do the same. I've not seen a di blasi "registered" in france with a number plate etc - they'rer all just driven around.

I have four petrol powered scooters, buzz around french towns, no hassle from the police wgho have seen us with interest, not slightest sign of threat or such. They know that i'm about as quick as a bicycle, and primary damage will be to me if an accident happens - which is true.

You can't have two-up if it's a single seater, and you should really wear a motorbike helmet, tho not serious in towns (yes i know, despite the fact that most accidents hapen in town...) If you do these things, that seems alboslutely fine. You can't be an arse and drive on mega-dual carriageways - not that you'll do this really, I expect.

Separately, damage to hands can be severe even at slow speed, even yottie gloves better than nothing.

Finally, if you're still worried, it might be an idea tio have bike "papers" bill of sale and so on. Kee pthe insurance premium and pay cash to any apples etc. that you run into...

Well Thank you for your reply, what the british insurance companies forget to tell you ....

Yet another example of rip off britain!!! I now know the way forward,
What is really annoying is I asked for 3 party only use abroad, not any extras, & no firm has put forward the true case, same as doctors I suppose.

Incidently do you run a british plated car abroad with foriegn insurance.?

to tcm

Yes to be used in europe, when we did a lot of french canalling with our previous boat we had an unregistered moped, & just as you say the police were completely uninterested. however this was not the case in germany at the time & dutch bikes had reg plates so thought it unwise to use there as well, hence the english plating of the new one. Use to wear a helmet with the old , just bought a new one the other day. Another example of rip off britain, New helmet € 65, in holland same type £69 in cannock uk., along with derv €0.75 nl, € 0.70 F and here £0.76

for those not use to the euro yet £1 = £1.56 (via credit card )

The square is the euro symbol which shows while typing but not in the post!!

To others

Thanks for you input, will get MCN & play the trade off game, and I wasnt quite trueful to twister, said couldnt find one, well to buy that is , was a stand there offering a Berthon folding boat but they insisted I had to join their organisation, wear greasy face paint, and carry a heavy shooting stick!! and weae funny green beret, but only if I was good enough, just as I was getting interested they insisted I drank less Duff as I was overwieght, but the thing that was a real insult was that I coiuld only use it when they said so, but I had to jump in the water before I reached the shore. Wandered off muttering what was the point in going by boat if I was to get wet any way......

No I run my cars on Swedish plates at the moment saves a lot of
insurance money ( a LOT on the porsche) and means I can drive anywhere in europe
without even having to think about green cards etc.,, Incidentally there are a few ,very few,
insurance brokers that will agree to a 12 month green card, they fiddle it by only issueing the
card if you have an accident . Yes I have used them and they did do the business.
To change the national plates on the car is so easy these days it is well worth it 100pounds
to put on Swedish plates I think it was.
