Helpful as ever I see. The harbour master will give advice on what is available, not what is desirable.

Don't go for any of the moorings off Southsands. We had a boat there that went astray in storms, and later a mooring just off the quay. Best place is in 'the bag' Sounds silly I know, but have a look at a chart of the area, 'the bag' is around the corner and sheltered and protected.

Bilge keel or not, protection and shelter are what matter there in storm conditions. Few of the moorings in the main harbour dry out. If no moorings available in the Bag, take one near the quay, or move further up river to Kingsbridge, Whisper can tell you all about this option

The harbour moorings are up the river and opposite the old 'Liver Birds' ferry that's now a Sailing School.

The sailing school I think is marked on the charts. Hope to get back down there as well this year.

Re: Moorings in Salcombe - marina based!!

Actually very handy that there's no marina- don't want a bunch of yobs spoiling our estuary. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
All moorings in the upper half of the estuary dry out and there's a waiting list even for them and residents get priority.
As others have said, the best place to try first is the HM because he will know what organisations, apart from his own, have a licence to rent moorings out, such as Winters Boatyard.
I suspect that by now all will be taken for next season but it is still worth a try. He would be available via email on the South Hams District Council's site. Sorry, not got the address to hand, though H.M's telephone number is 01548 843791
