Moorings in S West

My Sun Odyssey 35 ended up in Sutton Harbour, Plymouth, for her first winter last year. Ended up there after summer in France and was living in Bristol at time. Now living temporarily in Bedford and plan was to do some early pottering around Devon before sailing back to Solent (Gosport moorings?) for rest of summer. However now not able to have decent time off until July and so would like to keep boat in SW (Plymouth, Dartmouth, Falmouth?) until then. Don't really need marina as only limited sailing opportunities for me in interim - and probably can't have berth at Sutton anyway, unless willing to pay for whole summer.

Any suggestions for keeping somewhere for next 3 months. Fin keel so need afloat and obviously don't want to be worrying about safety when I'm in Bedford / London. Cost not a major barrier although attraction of mooring is that it's assumed to be cheaper given limited use. All ideas welcome.

I rented a mooring last winter from Cargreen sailing club, 2 miles or so above the Tamar bridge, quite inexpensive. The members may all be launching around now, but you could try. Very sheltered and safe.

Big Big difference in mileage between Dartmouth Plymouth & Falmouth.

There are moorings available on the Dart also on the Exe, & for sure there would be moorings available in Falmouth, try the Harbour Master, very very helpfull.

Suggest you try Weir Quay, one mile above Cargreen and on the Devon bank. Boatyard there (Mike Hooton) is very good and has moorings for six-foot draft. It's supervised and secure, unlike most river moorings. Weir Quay itself is a most delightful spot on the Gulworthy peninsula. Lovely river anchorages nearby. Seven miles to Plymouth by sea, a lovely trip. hmm ... you two are laugh a minute! would this be who organises turf's lock? according to ljs, the bucolic grockle who runs the show down 'ere might as well be ... wait a mo, elephants never forget supposedly!

would the deep moorings be in the bight or marina .. assuming they open the lock for you?

A short while ago the CArgreen YC still had a couple of deepish water moorings available. PM me for tel. no. of the Moorings Officer if it is of interest. You may well be able to take a short term let for almost no money. A permanent mooring, which includes the capital cost of the mooring plus servicing can be quite high.

Thanks to all who replied; have now got fixed up with a mooring in Exe for 3 months which is ideal. Pleasant weekend sailing moving there from Plymouth. Only blot on the occasion was £75 clamping fee for car at Exmouth Dock in the 50mins it took for my wife to come over in the water taxi (having been on train to Plymouth for it) to collect me and our belongings from boat before setting off home. Forgot to go to fish shop and buy ticket; some places are really welcoming to visitors aren't they!!
