Looking for 4 new polyester 3 strand 16mm mooring warps for next season I made enquiries of my local chandler for 4 x 4.5metres, each with a 10" soft eye.

Quoted price of £3 per metre plus £3.50 per eye=£17 each- total £68.

Tried e-bay and the first seller offered me a price of £9.65 each plus postage £10= £48.60- Getting better.

But then I found this company, also on e-bay www.ropeybuoys.com

They quoted and have delivered, next working day, a price of £3.60 each, including the eye plus £10 postage= total £24.40

I've no previous connection with this firm but I can honestly say I am highly delighted with the product, the price and the delivery

It's dead easy to splice in 3 strand - you don't need tools if it's soft enough, which warps usually are.
4 eyes, 20 mins max - that's a pretty hefty hour rate from your chandler!

I've gone off using soft eyes in favour of bowlines. The reason is that with eyes chafe can occur in the same place all the time. With bowlines, you can use the other end from time to time, or just vary the size of the loop so that the chafe isn't predictable.

Do take care that the rope is good quality. A colleague of mine (well known to this forum) bought some 3 strand which not only chafed in next to no time, but changed colour with the sun. It went dark yellow when the sun came out, and back to white after a prolonged time of no sun....He will not be buying cheap rope again.

Ask for a sample, and who actually makes the rope.

Thanks for the link. I'm in the market for several new sheets and halyards and had not discovered this site.

You're right, I normally do them myself and certainly wouldn't be paying £3.50. However if someone will do them for me for nowt, who am I to argue?

Thanks for the warning but on my fore and aft mooring buoys a bowline takes up a lot of space on the shackles and I've found that a cowhitch using a soft eye pinches up so tight there is little or no movement and they last 3 or 4 seasons without any problem- at this price I don't care if they only last two seasons
