we are currently on a swing mooring in portsmouth harbour. as we are finding we have more single days than whole weekends the journey (and petrol prices!) is becoming a bit of a pain. i'm thinking of looking for places closer to our home in north east london. medway seems like one option. however i don't know what the sailing is like as all my uk sailing experience is the solent.

any suggestions or advice gratefully received.

Near the M11/A12 ,then you sound like a candidate for the east coast.

Ever been to the Orwell or Blackwater? If not, you should try it!

Agree there, but as an Orwell resident I would wouldn't I :D

Certainly much easier to to get Essex/Suffolk from NE London than down to the Medway, which has grand sailing water, but you have to cross the river, with Dartford crossing or Blackwall tunnel coming up all the time on traffic reports I would have thought best avoided?

Moorings are generally a lot cheaper on the East coast which is another plus.

Hi ninky (and anyone else) did you get any joy in finding moorings in essex/suffolk? I am thinking of getting a 50' barge and convert. I need cheap moorings till I get back on my feet (lost job/house).
