Just getting ready for the new season, just had a look at the mooring strop which is 20mm nylon. The strop has been used for 2 seasons now and looks to be in good condition, anyone got any ideas how long a strop like this should last, barring accidental damage?

This is a how strong is piece of string question. Depends on sun exposure, chafe and the spare capacity inherent in 20mm versus your size of boat.

My bow lines are very much in the sun and don't have bags of spare capacity so I change them every 2 years, fwiw. They are cheap compared with even a gelcoat ding, let along something more serious

Ours will be 2 years old in July and we planned to change them this year irrespective of condition as someone told me that its not necessarily the damage / "corrosion" that you can see on the outside that you should worry about. We managed to get out last week but I noticed that one of the spring lines had chafed through 2 out of 4 strands, so that one will need changing asap.

Would be good to hear of any recommended suppliers though, as the internet reveals a host of suppliers and price points - which I guess is reflective of margin and / or quality....

For the sake of maybe £20 or so is it worth even thinking twice about changing it?
