Hi,

I currently keep my boat (a Westerly Centaur) and mainly sail in the Solent. I now live near Ross-on-Wye and am considering moving her closer to home. I would appreciate thoughts and suggestions on suitable moorings, sailing conditions, day sail and weekend destinations etc.

Thanks and good sailing.

Hi

I've just, April, berthed my boat at Penarth marina. After visiting alot of places all around the welsh coast, IMHO, Penarth was the best for me. I live in Warwickshire, so it's also very close to home, closer for you. With an LOA of 10m I'm paying about £1700 p.a. and find the marina staff/facilities/boatyard very good.

With the new barrage across Cardiff bay, there is now a 500 acre freshwater lake which is good if you just want a quick blast/potter without going into the channel.

If you are looking for mooring there are a number in the River Ely, which flows into Cardiff bay. I think these belong to the CBYC.

Have a look at:

http://www.bristolchannel.co.uk/

which gives alot of detailed info for the area, including clubs and pilotage.

Portishead cruising club website gives a good introduction into sailing the area, but don't let the warnings put you off. This is at:

Hope this helps

Wayne
