mooring ropes 25mm where to buy ?

looking for new mooring ropes 24 or 25 mm OD,
the fine breaded type (polyester ?) in silver grey collor !
where to get these ?

asked for a quote at Liros in Germany,
http://www.liros.com/fileadmin/user.../Downloads/Prospekte/LIROS_SuperYacht_1_0.pdf

It will take them a week to make a quote, so I'm afraid price will be staggering
Liros are good, and well priced. Major company in rope, as you know

If you want loops in the end you need a rigger firm eg jimmygreen.co.uk

Personally I would not use fine braided for mooring. I prefer something strechier. I would use 3-strand or octoplait

Not sure about silver colour - that will limit your choice. Alll my rope is black

the original main mooring ropes are Blue octoplaid, and these are still nice and I'll keep these, (maybe later replace by black)
but for the cross lines, and some extra's, the old grey 3 strand are all worn out (from touching) or broken, I want to replace these

would like to have silver grey ropes, and silver grey fender covers in the new colour sheme
sorry for OCD on that :)

This might be useful (in USA, I know) http://cruisermarine.com/double-braid-dock-line-gray.html

B, what do you mean by SILVER grey exactly?
Colour tone aside, I've never seen any mooring line (or any rope at all, for that matter) as shining as silver.
Fwiw, I recently bought a couple of these stern lines:
http://www.nauticailliano.it/prodot...ope-blu-con-redancia-mm24-mt13_112334024.html
And in spite of the reasonable price (not to mention the fact that this chandler is based in Naples... :)), they are very good indeed. And the delivery was superfast, too.
They also have the same lines in grey - see below, though for reasons that I can't understand they are slightly more expensive...

They don't seem to have an EN version of their website, but don't hesitate to ask for any further details.

Agree with that, for the reason you've mentioned (stretchiness), but also because I don't trust the splicing on braided lines. I've had a couple of professionally spliced warps where the inner has worked loose, but it's not obvious because the outer is still intact. I guess most of the strength comes from the inner, so the boat could be at risk without you knowing about it. With 3 strand or Octoplait, i've never had an issue, and even if I did, it would be more obvious that something was giving.

Sounds worrying.
The braided lines I linked in the previous post are the first I ever bought, mostly because swmbo tried one in another boat and loved the smoother touch.
They came already spliced, and the splicing looks very well made indeed, but what do I know...?
Fwiw, I always used 3-strand so far, which I spliced myself, and never had any problem with them.

Couldn't you really notice anything externally? I mean, at least in hindsight, knowing what can happen, isn't it sufficient to keep a careful eye on the splicing?
I would think that if the inner part works loose, the exterior should at least appear "stretched", if you see what I mean.
Afer all, I've seen braided lines used for stern to mooring also in superyachts, and without any shock absorber. They can't be that bad, I reckon...
In fact, I was a bit surprised to hear what jfm said. I would have thought that braided lines are a tad stretchier, at least if compared to 3 strand.

Most braided lines are fine of course, as you say they are widely used and you don't hear of many problems. The guy who spliced mine probably did something wrong. The issue is that it's difficult to spot even when the inner has completely failed and the warps have virtually no strength. You can notice the failure if you massage the area around the join, you can feel the end of the inner which has come loose, but it's difficult to spot just by sight. Of course if it pulls even more loose then you see the outer become flat and it's more obvious.

Aha, I see what U mean, thanks.
I must remember to include some "warp massage" among the other odd maintenance checks, for next summer... :)
Luckily, the boat is now sheltered, so I don't need to worry for the moment.

Silver grey is just the colour name that's used by Licros,
actually similar colour as the rope in your link.

thanks all for the sugestions and advice,
I'll come back when there will be bumbs
