If I wanted to moor rather than anchor is there a means of pre booking a mooring and what happens if you have paid for a period of time and then go for a day sail planning on returning the same day to the same mooring.
General question and deliberately haven’t specified which mooring as answer may determine where to go.
Other than St Mary’s haven’t moored on IoS always anchored.
Thanks

It is generally a first come first served basis for the moorings of which there are only visitors moorings in St Mary's harbour, New Grimsby and Old Grimsby the latter two being run by Tresco estate (01720 422849) it may be worth ringing them to try and book in advance as I'm not too sure of their policy. If you are moored in St Mary's and want to go for a sail for the day and come back to the mooring then leave your dinghy there, which is not much use if you want to land on one of the other islands I know.
