I am moored on a stern to berth on a floating jetty. I am fed up with tripping over the crossed mooring ropes. I would like to utilise the trailer tie down eye's instead of the cleats, therefore the crossed ropes are below bathing platform level. I will use ropes on the cleats as well when were not on board for added security.Question is will they be secure enough for this purpose or is this a bollocks idea.

I take it you are now on one of the new floating jetties? How is the Marina coming on? I do not know much about mooring with the ski eyes but given your location I do not see a problem. Have a go and let us all know...

Hi Paul
Yes I am on the new floaters and it will be rather smart when its finished. A darned site better than in front of the ship. I have tryed it and it works and looks spot on, however there was no wind when I did it. I spliced some stainless clips onto two ropes so I can have them set at the correct length and just clip them on. I can't see a problem but I thought I would check. Beats falling over them after the pub.
(I new that splicing article in mbm would come in handy)

Have a walk around to WMV, crossing the stern ropes is not common around there, most people use springs and lines on the finger jetties and, on the side away from the jetty just a line from the stern cleat to the nearest post. It works well around there but it is more sheltered than where you are, could be alright though

If anyone is interested it worked a treat. I have spoken to the mnarina lads and am informed that the towing eyes are as structurally sound as the cleats so no prob's there. No more falling over crossed stern lines when annebriated.
