Mooring Lines

Currently have 12mm multiplait mooring lines which have gone very stiff over the last two years. Put em in the washing machine and soaked em in a bucket of comfort fabric conditioner for two days and they feel a bit better, but I feel 10mm would be more appropriate for a 20' boat with small cleats.

River marina, slow speed traffic only, no currents to speak of.

So which type / size would you recommend in order to stop SWMBO moaning about fighting the rope?

1. Stick with the multiplait 12mm?

2. Go for 10mm braided dockline?

3. Go for 10mm polyester 3 strand?

Or some other type?

Sounds like you've got nylon, horible stuff, get shut.

I would go for marlow dockline - not too expensive, very soft for SWMBO to handle ( and stays that way) 10mm more than adequate fo a 20 ft boat on inland waterway.

In March 2010 MB&Y magazine 3 strand polyester was recommnded for mooring and 12mm for 0-5 ton

So we are saying it is nylon that goes stiff with age, not polyester?

Knew it was one or the other, but could not remember which.
