Has anyone else noted the three boats establishing permanent moorings above Shillingford bridge Hotel. I believe these are public and have stopped there many times over the years. Im pretty fed up with this type of thing its totally unfair on the rest of us boaters.

If you are talking of the land which extends upriver from the hotel. These were acquired by Brian Milsom when he owned the SBH many (30?) years ago. He paid £6,000 for the deal and as far as I was aware at the time he added the land to the SBH.

Thanks Byron. In my old Nicholsons it shows two mooring signs. One I assume is the Hotel but as there is no charge for the second lot I had taken it as public. We have stopped many times here but obviously not now.

I noticed those boats too and they looked unlikely customers of the Shillingford SBS.

I will be seeing Brian Milsoms former personal secretary next weekend at an Oxford Ditch Rally to Ashmount, if I remember I will bring the matter up. It could be that he retained the land when he sold up. Or the Hotel doesn't realise they own the land. The latter wouldn't surprise me. The Beetle & Wedge never accepted they owned the opposite side of the river where the Ferry was. Now it's been appropriated by the village for the slipway just to complicate matters further.
There's loads of anomalies on the river. The slipway at Wallingford Bridge is gated and locked yet it's a public right. Go upstream of the Shillingford Bridge Hotel on the opposite side there's a public landing marked 'Private'. I'm sure others can cite plenty of instances.
