For yet another year it doesn't look as though I'm going to be able to move my boat down there. This leaves me with a 15 metre mooring available - if anyone's interested (in renting or buying it) I would be prepared to deal a very reasonable deal.

I looked but from my enquiries with exisiting berth holders and going there to view it, it is a desolate place, some people put on a brave face because they have bought there but the reality is there are a lot of problems with growth and things not getting done, plus the cruising ground is limited and boring. Otherwise I would have bought it from you, but investment wise it would be suicidal.

Methinks you'll get flamed for that

Well I am not sure you are right! As far as investment goes I agree its difficult to tell if prices will soar but Med moorings are in high demand in general and ten years down the line mooring prices have got to increase.

Its true there are a few issues with heavy fouling, but MDL are doing their best to give a low cost lift and power wash which helps a lot.
The coast is not the most exciting but again its not as bad as you think, of course the best deal at Sant Carles is its very close to the islands, a short cruise for a fast boat and only six hours or so for my cruiser which only has an average 15 knot cruising speed.

There is a large natural lagoon just outside the marina, so if non boaty friends come to visit or you just don't want to cruise a long distance you can have a cruise around and then drop anchor and sun bath, swim, water ski or just dinghy across to the bar/restuarant in the lagoon.

But of course the best thing about Sant Carles is the SUN!!

Naaa
Not going to bother this time, Mike.

If thats what he thinks - he's the one missing out!!!

I agree about the sun, I have no problem with that, but you can also get the sun in a caravan on a landfill site. What I am talking about having been there is that it is a souless place, seems it attracts a few lonesome oddballs bertholders, nothing wrong with those types but not my cup of tea. You have to admit that it is years away from even being finished, It is still like buying off plan, if it was that popular then all the moorings would be taken, I had a fantastic choice of moorings from people wanting to get out, so in my mind it is a dead duck, investment wise.

Thank you medskipper for being as honest as I am, good to see that they are doing lot's of lifting out at fair prices, but having viewed quite a few marinas in the med I would place that at the bottom of the pile, but then it's cheap or cheap ish, so apart from the oddballs it will always attract the budget boater who has blown too much on a boat and can't afford a decent mooring, but wants sun, sand and se.......renity.

"but then it's cheap or cheap ish,"

Not really that cheap, or even cheapish, (according to their published prices) or I would consider moving there, since my plans to move to Greece seem scuppered with the new taxes.

I'm not going to rise to this bate - only to say

160 euros per metre for six months storage ashore including lift, scrub, relaunch and electricity - that doesnt sound expensive for the Med IMO.
Our Sealine cost more than that for a couple of weeks at Hamble Point.

You obviously dont know the facts. When did you last go there?

Don't get me wrong, there are people there, and they are happy, so it fits some people's criteria and I have no doubt when it matures will be fine, but not for me while still like a building site with no soul. BUT there are 'some' unhappy people there, although perhaps in the minority, but you can't just see the best side of things.

When I meant cheap, I meant good value, not over priced or a rip off, but then as I said you get what you pay for. So investment wise not for me.

I was there at the beginning of last summer.

Perhaps you should have another look, either that or your reference to "building sites" is so far out of touch with reality it is laughable.

I don't much care, nor am I going to spend more time defending, I just would not like your obviously jaundiced views to put others off a truely great Med marina.

Graham

I retract building site, not quite finished is perhaps more appropriate. However other things about it do not tick my box's, so I am out, as they say. I do wish them every success and it will tick box's if not all for some. These are my views, sorry if I am not allowed to express an opinion, but others have already partly agreed on some aspects so it can't all be wrong.

No you are quite right, that is not expensive, about the same as most med marinas in the area, not barcelona I admit, because there isnt anywhere to haul out for the winter, not for big boats anyway.

Oh come off it westie34! Lonesome oddballs! I have been boating over 25 years and moored in all sorts of marinas in the uk over that time. Sant Carles is perhaps the most friendly! I have been made welcome by so many people there! All the berthholders I have met are only too happy to share information, time and help with any problem I have come across.

If you didnt get on with people you met there perhaps you should look closer to home for the problem! The staff are also very good and very helpful. Years away from being finished? that is complete rubbish also! The only thing they have not yet built are a few shops by the Med moorings. Certainly not missed as there are a good selection in Sant Carles town. Its one thing to say you don't like a place, but to run a good marina down just after its open is another! I entered Chatham Marina in Kent when it first opened, now that WAS souless then, but after 2-3 years it became a thriving vibrant marina and is now around ten years of age with people on waiting lists.

I said that it needed to mature, and was not for me at that time i.e. new and unfinished, so please read what I said. As for oddballs, not the marina staff I agree, they were very nice and helpful, but you cannot disagree there are some oddballs there although I don't know if you were one of the people I spoke to.

By the way I have no problem with oddballs, in fact I could very well be one myself.

Just checked the prices again, didnt see any discount last time I looked, now it is considerably cheaper than Barcelona. It's a pity they jump from 15 to 20m, no 18m, means I have to pay for 20m, if I was to go there. Parking free, it isnt in Barce, they have storage rooms, cheaper than barce. If I cant go to greece I may well be in Sant Carles, next year. I already know the town, used to live close by, when drilling some wells there.
The fouling is very bad, due to the amount of nutrients coming down the Ebro, but with those lift out prices, not such a big problem to have a wash and brush up, before a longer cruise.
The place is growing on me, meddy style mooring, dont need pontoons.
