Thinking of moving to a marina berth near Amsterdam. Does anybody know what the position is regarding motoring onto the central canal ring and temporarily mooring up? Can one do this overnight on occasion?

Not with the mast up... The parking places in the central ring are allocated by the authorities. For ever waiting list - but come with mains gas, electricity, water and telephone...I used to live in a houseboat on a central canal. you could probably overnight in the area but would be moved on the next day.

there are two marinas near central station - a small one to overnight in just before the station but suitable for fairly small boats and one on the other side of the river. From either it is easy to do the tourist thing but security on the one close by the station is iffy. This is a high drugs and hookers area

There are many very good marinas in the Isslemere.

The one just before the station does not exist anymore. There is a possibility to moor in the canal leading to the inland 'standing mast route' you can take to Zeeland. Most boats will go during the night through Amsterdam, but some wil just stay there to visit the city (streetcar nearby). You have to pass an opening bridge to get in, and pay a small fee, but that gives you the right to moor in the city. Take your dinghy and make a tour in the canals nearby - a lot of fun.

hi, I live in Amsterdam, my boat is 10 miles from Amsterdam in Naarden, near the Ijsselmeer. What do you want exactly, I don't understand your question. to find a place in Amsterdam will be difficult, just outside it's possible. if I can help you, let me know.
