Just received the invoice for next years mooring fees at Shotley, ouch! £305 per metre for the year. That's £2440 for my 8m boat. Although we like it at Shotley, that seemed a lot of money, so i had a quick look around. SYH work out £400 a year cheaper, but are fully booked. Wolverstone are even dearer and it's cost more in fuel and take more time to motor up the river to them. Have considered a swinging mooring at SYH, with a Winter pontoon, which would save me £748, but neither of us are really keen on doing the dingy thing again. Some of the South coast marinas are cheaper !!

What about Foxs?

BTW confirmation of requiring a berth by current berth-holders at SYH is not due in to them until the 22nd of this month. So you might still get a berth next year despite what they say now - their year runs from 1st April to 31st March

We are officially (according to the annual PBO survey) 168th in the most expensive marinas category. We were 172nd the year before, the chisellers.

Hi
Our renewal from Foxs works out just under £275 pm inc VAT after taking off the early payment discount.

Unfortunately, SYH charge will be subject to VAT @ 20% (Yup, I have asked about early pre-VAT change payment but not possible according to their accountants).

With 20% VAT & a prompt payment discount it works out at £299.82/m.

Interesting, when i phoned them earlier this week they said they didn't know how much moorings would be next year, £299.52/m would make it a waste of time moving, the fiver a metre saving would be swallowed in extra fuel. Also interesting about the pre-payment for VAT savings, had a letter from Shotley earlier this year, they will take payment for the next five years at 17.5%

Mmm, I received my booking form with all the rates on last month. The letter was date stamped 20.10.10.

Annual rate Pontoon Berth £263/m + VAT (includes hardstanding)
Swinging Mooring 1st April - 31st Oct £108.50/m + VAT (excludes hardstanding)
Winter Berth 1st Nov - 31st March £88 /m + VAT

I went into the office a week ago & asked Jonathan Dyke (MD) directly if I (we) could pay early for next year & therefore escape the VAT rise & he said that they had looked at various ways of getting round the VAT issue & they had all been vetoed by the company accountants. So why Shotley can do it & SYH can't I don't know.

Odd, because i rang Monday or Tuesday and was given 2010 prices, being told they hadn't set 2011 prices, yet.

Only thing i can think of with the VAT, if i paid at Shotley, i would be paying now (whilst 17.5% is still the current rate) for a mooring for X years. If you tried to pay SYH now, you are paying for something that doesn't begin until next year, when the rate will already be 20%. If that makes sense ?

Living nr Wisbech, most of the other marinas mentioned are not really within easy driving distance. Wells is closer, but very restricted by tides. Maybe Shotley isn't looking that bad.

I'm gobsmacked. It appears most people are paying per month in a marina more than I pay per year for half tide mooring and winter hard standing.

I'm not sure I'd pay marina prices even if I could afford them!

Half-tide - 6 months + 6 months hard standing.

The way I read it, that's for 3 months of sailing per year :p

But we can sail at any time we like see

Which is what it's about - if you have to travel a long way for some sailing, the last thing you want to do is wait for the tide to come in.

Millbeach marine charges

Just got my bill for 2011 season.
Our club Miilbeach Marine on the Blackwater have put our prices up.
£347 all in ,that includes,
Membership.
Swing mooring charges.
Winter storage.
Theaving sods :mad::mad:
Thats it im off....
LOL:):):)

Tidemill £195 per/m. We have 3 or 4 hours before and 2 or 3 hours after HW access but we draw very little. It's at the margins of what I think is OK but we get a town centre and the best loos on the east coast.
