Received minutes of the AGM of our sailing club this week. The following is a verbatim quote :

"Moorings to let

Members were reminded that moorings are available in the Swale, the annual cost is £35 but there will be a one-off charge of about £500 for buying and laying the ground tackle."

Who says commercial mooring providers are taking the p1ss ?

Pragmatist, you certainly live up to your name, but Pessimist, I am disappointed in you.

Any comment from Optimist? Or Masochist?

My club mooring costs £250/annum but no initial charge. So if you keep yours more than two years you are getting a good deal. Does the club pay for inspecting and maintaining as well or is that on top?

One of my clubs does moorings in an SSSI (actually quite pretty) for £1 per foot per year. Club membership about £20. facilities - none really. But who cares?

I am lucky enough to own a private mooring in Chichester harbour - class B3 (dries to .5m, max loa 28ft) the licence for which costs the princely sum of £160 a year . I have to provide and lay my own tackle, but as the previous owner had replaced everything with gear that would hold a sixty footer, I do not anticipate spending much on it for a long time to come!
