Hi
Can any one help when fixing an additional aluminium mooring cleat should I use stainless screws if so do I need to put something under the head of the countersunk screw to stop corrosion.

A smear of Duralac would not do any harm although all the cleats on my sadler are aluminium alloy and are fixed with stainless bolts / screws and no sign of corrosion - don't know if the builder used Duralac - don't think they would go to the bother.

I've found that the underside of my mooring cleats corrodes worst, so I'd suggest you bed them carefully on Sikaflex or similar. And it's certainly worth using Duralac on the SS screws.

IMHO the aluminium tends not to corrode where it is anodised even when touching steel. Maybe why some cleats mentioned are corrosion free?
I've only experienced corrosion where raw steel is touching raw aluminium or alloy - and that's where I join with the others and suggest a corrosion inhibitor or other form of insulator is used.
