Need a mooring buoy, to support the tackle for a new lay .
14mm Riser 6 metre
19mm twin anchor setup with swivel.
Prefer a foam filled with good forged ring to top.
Probably around 80cm to 1m diameter.

Any suppliers or manufacturers recommendations?

why not have the riser passing through the buoy with a loop spliced in.
1/ no hard steel to damage your top sides
2/ no reliance on dodge welding

Yes. Hippo marine buoys - bit expensive but tough and good design with the chain passing right through the middle of the buoy so no extra rods etc to break or corrode. When I bought mine they were happy to provide a top support plate with a very strong welded and galvanised hoop if you wanted that. Otherwise you connect direct to your own mooring chain.

There is even a decent second hand market for them.

... which (presumably) is why he would like a recommendation!

My thoughts entirely....

Graham, that seemed out of character.

BH: I saw the Hippos yesterday, can see the manufacturers site, but nowhere who retails them.
Same with Norfloat.

If you want a real toughie squidgy one, then Woods of Crediton had some in stock a couple of weeks ago.

Noit this beauty, though !

If you haven't sourced one yet, perhaps worth a call ?

EDIT Being a bit more sensible... this local firm does a range of mooring buoys, and I know they make fenders for 'named' companies..

FC,

Try Boat Gear Direct www.boatgeardirect.co.uk/Equipment.

Like you I prefer a soft shell foam filled buoy - personally wouldn't use a Hippo - they are good buoys tough as old boots and last ages but the square edges are harsh on gel coat when the boat gets pushed onto it.

There used to be two versions of every Hippo, one of them with softer foam on the outside inch or so. Not that I even had the slightest problem with damage to the boat using the ordinary buoys.

Thanks all, I managed to get a Danish one from Dauntless, foam filled weighing around 35lbs I guess, big enough not to be able to get my arms round it, and a forged ring on top and a U section bottom. Looks robust, hope it works well. At £195 it sure needs to.

So, all set now, just need some stickers. Csail around?:p
