mooring at medmenham

planning to moor up on the field at Medmenham (opposite Culham Court) for the first time this weekend. Just wondered if there was anything to watch out for, ie shallow depths etc.

Also anyone know what the pub is like in the village, think its called the Dog & Badger?
 
Not sure on the depths but the Dog and Badger still works as a pub but also has a Sardinian Italian restaurant in it. I think the food is very good and a vast improvement over the food served before.
 
The top end opposite Culham Court is pretty shallow, the further down you go towards Ferry Lane the better apart from the last 200 yeards, favourite mooring spots are fairly obvious.
The Dog & Badger is now a Sardinian/Italian restaurant, the restaurant menu looks quite good but I haven't sampled it yet, the bar menu is pretty naff unless you like anti-pasta etc.
The beer is Rebellion and possibly London Pride.
 
I have friends who stay at Medmenham very frequently and they report that food at the Dog & Badger is not OK. It certainly was last time I was there, but the place has changed hands since I understand.
At Medmenham I moor up with stern out a few feet (I have outdrives) and I have a small weight (concrete moulded in a saucepan) which serves to keep the stern out.

The bailiff from Fawley Meadows at Henley collects fees here
(£4 or 5 I seem to recall)
 
Well, I live very nearby and I like it. It isn't trad pub food though so if you want bangers and mash, it is not going to be your thing.
 
Well Brayman, I suggest you give it a try. I was there on Sunday and it was great. If you don't like it feel free to blame me.

Homemade Tiramisu very nice to finish.
 
Bailiff's name is Steve. I think it is £6 now but that is for 24hrs on his land i.e. if you want to go to Henley(Fawley Meadow and Remenham Fields) for lunch the following day you are still covered but keep the reciept to prove you paid.
 
Used to work near Dog and Badger (can you guess where...) ate there all the time, only went back recently and had Sunday lunch Sardinian style and I have to say it was excellent.

However they were a bit un organized and I can see there being a few mishaps but food (and there was a lot of it!) was very good indeed.

But as always you can have 100 good meals, recommend to someone who will have one bad one..

Hopefully he will see the post and confirm, it was a while ago and as you know don't really need that facility anymore! Looking forward to seeing you at Windsor.

Yes he does or did do it, we've stayed the night at Medmenham then moved up to Fawley Court for lunch the next day and he waved the second fee /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
Thanks Emma, we're setting off tomorrow to go upriver for a while and end up at Windsor on Saturday week, maybe stopping at Medmenham about midweek. Look forward to seeing you in Windsor.

Will keep an eye out for you. We are heading upstream from Saturday. Will be back at Harleyford Thursday.
 
I like the moorings at Medmenham. Last year I had an issue with depth on one occasion, but that was after the floods when the levels were up and down like a yo yo. There is one spot halfway along which you may be able to find which has a small channel dredged out following my "anchor incident" last month.
