I am traveling the french canals this summer starting in Mid May, I have a small but worthwile problem in that i need to return to the UK in July for a wedding that my Girlfriend is bridesmaid too. We have decided to try and get to Lyon and are looking for places to leave the boat whilst there for a week to 10 days.

If anyone could shed any light on good places to leave boats, as well as if the french waterways mind boats being left for a short period etc.

Also if anyone has a mooring in Lyon that they are not using this would be more than useful and we would be more than happy to help out on payments.

Thankyou Jordan & Jess

I thought you'd be up to your eyebrows in replies by now, so didn't bother giving my dated bit...when working on a hotel barge in Burgundy in 1994 covering the Burgundy Canal, Soane and Canal du Centre, we often came across boats which were obviously left for weeks if not months at a time, particularly on the canal du Centre ( I do not mean these boats were abandoned, they weren't ).

I would have thought it would be the same story further down around Lyon.

Probably the most useful thing I can say is ask this on the Liveaboard Forum; there are lots of people there who know the current state of the canals, one makes a speciality of supplying info but sadly I forget his name.

I would be worried about leaving my boat in Lyon for security reasons. There is a good marina at les Roches Condrieu, a bit to the south, and another at Valence, even further south, where I think they would look after it better.

Jordan Boon,

The person I referred to with the canals knowledge you need is Grehan, he has just replied on the 'Parrot seeks bird' thread, definitely worth making contact.
