does anyone know of a website or publication that gives the costs for the myriad different options for keeping a boat (10m) in the Southampton area. I'm about to take the plunge, need to keep her near southampton, at least until the necessary work can be finished, (probably three months min). Without decades of local knowledge I fear that I,m facing several weeks on the phone compiling data for comparison.
can anyone point me in a useful direction?
Thanks in advance.

I second what Steve has said but would add that, to a certain extent, the price will depend on the convenience and level of plushness that a particular marina or boatyard provides. For example, Hamble Point is quite pricey because (a) it's on the Hamble (b) it's straight out into the Solent and (c) it's got lots of facilities to hand. Shamrock Quay - which is owned by the same company - has similar facilities but is cheaper because (a) it's in a slightly grotty area of Southampton and (b) it's a fair way up the River Itchen with a resultant plod down to Southampton Water.

If factors like this don't matter to you and (in the case of Kemp's) if you don't mind being on a drying berth, then Kemp's (on the Itchen above Shamrock Quay) and Eastland's (on the Hamble, above Bursledon Bridge) will both provide reasonable facilities at a cost effective rate. Further afield, Wicormarine at Fareham (Portsmouth Harbour) is warmly spoken of by many.

If you're looking for space between now and Xmas you may well be able to get an off-season bargain from one of the big boys, but you will need to ring around, I'm afraid.

All imho

thanks for these folks. some options have been mentioned that I hadn't heard of. link i'll peruse in more detail later. In all likelihood I will end up keeping the boat in the Solent area after the work is complete. I know it's busy but there are lots of good reasons for that. I shall arm myself with some time, a ready supply of tea bags and a comfortable phone. thanks again

I would echo the above, although there are a couple of good recent threads with names and addresses here and here .

Generally, Hamble, Beaulieu and Lymington are millionares' territory, unless your grandad put you on the waiting list, while more industrial places like Southampton water and more rural places like Chichester and Langstone harbours are cheaper. I believe it's even cheaper if you go abroad (Isle of Wight). When looking for a mooring, you generally get a better response by visiting the boatyard yourself than by writing, emailing or phoning.
