Mooring Aid

It looks very limited in that it would only be useful with that type of cleat. If you are mooring to a ring or bollard type of arrangement it wouldn't be very effective.

A lasso would do the same job easier and cheaper?

It would certainly work on a pontoon cleat - but you wouldn't pay someone for a ball and length of plastic pipe would you? Might give it a go myself. I wonder what there is to patent - the ball or the pipe? Mind you, the Yanks seem to award patents to any old c**p, I'm sure someone will have a US patent on gravity...

I was more concerned at the speed of approach and attachment of a suddenly loaded mooring line to a railing. "Learn to moor like a pro..." obviously doesn't own the boat and pay for repairs!

Well, it does say "Taxi" down the side of the boat, explains it all! ;)

Surely the moorfast does the same job, but is much more versatile for rings and cleats?

Yes, better for other types but probably not too easy to manipulate on a pontoon cleat. The idea of a pipe and ball (stopper) to lasoo a cleat is delightfully simple to get a first spring in place, especially when single-handed.
