I am thinking of buying a particular Moody Eclipse 33 and would be interested to have some very rough idea how much it might cost to have the following extras fitted professionally:-
Radar system
Full size sprayhood
Electric anchor windlass

All comments welcome

at a guess...

Radar system £300
Sprayhood £250
Windlass £400

Thats for fitting...... to buy them in the first place - real rough guides....

Radar £700 to £3k
Sprayhood £500 to £700
Windlass £1k

Don't forget that you also need radar mounting gear £150 to £500 (mast vs pole), plus extra battery and switches/isolators for windlass £200, and probably another £100 of electrical cabling

Probably go with the prices already quoted, but if it is a question of money - fit the radar yourself - dead easy - you dont need to drop the rig ! Ive got a spray hood frame (with aft hand rail) from a moody which I'm going to put on the For Sale forum once I've measured it - if you are interested let me know. As for the windlass, if you are getting someone to fit it make sure they know what they are doing re core packing, cable sizes etc etc. However if you are of the 'each man to his job' type of person then the prices suggested are in the ball park.

Hi
I can help out on the spray hood as we are getting one fitted on our moody 33 as we speak, just paid the deposit ...gulp!
For a much larger one than our existing one (difficult to explain) but the old one did not really have much on the side and including the frame the bill is £950.
I could have no doubt looked around for a cheaper quote but did not have the time.
Hope this helps!

Why would you remove the mast - let alone lift out. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

On our last boat everything was done afloat, with the mast in place.

Radar (Furuno 1623) - £450 off eBay (brand new)
Fitting - £100 (after hours - cash in hand)

I usually go for the best kit available for my boat, but I refuse to pay silly prices

why - cause it is the easiest way, and a proper company would insist on H&S basis,. yes as you have proved, you can get somebosy to do it after hours, but would not be my chosen solution.

To each his own I suppose

If everything had been done the "proper" way...

- Furuno 1623 radar - £750 (cheapest dealer price I could find)
- Installation £350 (7hrs work @ £50/hr)
- Haul out £495 (no kidding - £16.50 p/meter)
- Unstepping mast £140 (£11 per meter - wot's boat length got to do with THAT?)
- Stepping mast £140
- Launch £495

Total cost: £2370

"My way" - total cost £550
To be honest - I don't earn enough to do it any other way.
