Hi all
Anyone knows how an Eclipse 38 sails?
Were generally light weather people not liking anything above a force4. If 5 is forecast we run for shelter.

Is the Eclipse classed as a motor sailor?

What sort of performance should I expect?
 
Only sailed on the once, but admit to being pleasantly surprised by it.

Like most cruising Moodys, its not a sparkling race machine with pin point precision handling, but none-the-less, like its bretheren, a pleasurable boat to sail.

I think you would like it.

Not always easy to find so if you have found one get to it quickly.

Good boats are selling fast at the moment.
 
As above, the Eclipse 38 is a sailing yacht but adequately provided for in the engine department.
She sails very well indeed and will look after you in a blow too. Though sailing from below is an option, I prefer to be up on the deck steering.
She is very well appointed below and a distinct improvement on the smaller Eclipse 33's facilities and spaces; performance-wise she will do her 7 Knots in F3-4 comfortably with no griping and with the in-mast main and furling jib there is no reason not to reduce sail though reducing the main first will keep her pointing well,then if pressed reduce the foresail. If memory serves the 43HP Volvo was the preferred engine for this and the 43foot Eclipse also, another excellent yacht too.
The linkage to the in -cabin steering did have a problem on earlier models of the Eclipse but were modified to overcome this.
The furling of the main takes a bit of practice, and patience, when furling to prevent too loose a furl in the mast, thus leading to a jam the tension of the clew outhaul has to be balanced to the furling line as regards tensions when reefing and unfurling.
As said they are of the hen's teeth variety in availability,but good value and well built.
