Welcome to the forum, Mr Grumpy - there are plenty like you around here, just need to be taken with a large pinch of salt !
Not sure what you wil achieve through your poll. You might get more useful information from the Moody Owners Association at http://moodyowners.org.uk/
There are usually 3 or 4 38's around on the market, and you would need to look at as many as possible to form your own view. It clearly depends on your budget as to what year, spec and condition you are willing to buy.
in general, they are very good all round cruisers, which benefit from a centreline berth in the main aft cabin and its own heads. I like their comfort and space all round, such as the galley, cockpit and storage. I am told they need at least a F4 to really get them moving, but will be comfortable in stronger winds.
I would add that there are two moody 38s. One from the early 90s and one from the early 00s. They are completely different boats, the older one is a much better sailing boat and contrary to Shy_Talk I think it is quite good in light winds.
This would make an interesting argument in the pub, since Nick and I are both 6ft 6in /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I think you are referring to the S38 as teh later model which, in addition to being an aft cockpit design, is a different boat altogether IMO. I must admit I wasn't thinking about the S in my response as it has not been included in my own research.
So no fights - an honourable draw, I hope you agree!
One could say that about any manufacturers yachts. To me, our Moody is a good all rounder in terms of performance, accommodation, and cost of ownership. Its a question of what each individual sees as value for money. I wouldn't buy a Jenneau, Bavaria, Nauticat or Oyster for the same reason.
