The coachroof handrails on my moody 38 are teak encased in a "plastic" shell. The boat is 6 years old and the plastic has "matured" and degraded somewhat, and the edges are breaking off. I've seen similar boats where the owners have removed the plastic "coat" and the wood underneath is of good quality. However I haven't managed to find out how to get the plastic off. I've tried with a chisel but it took two hours to do about a foot!!

Anyone any ideas. There are 3 rails P & S about 12/14 feet in total

Barry, what do Moody say?

Or, could it be locally and gently heated enough to enable a Stanley knife to go through it along an unseen edge? I don't mean a heat gun, more a hairdrier.
