Morning all - can anyone please advise me as to the cross section size and the number of rings fitted to the drive shaft gland of a Moody 376. Also is packing only fitted, or does the gland have water seal cages inline with the greaser inlet pipe?
Many thanks.

If you can reach the gland (ie the part that is pressed in to compress the packing) with calipers, and measure its diameter, then subtract the diameter of the shaft, then divide the result by 2, you get the size of the packing. The number of rings is whatever will fit.

Another method of finding the size of packing is to take three drill bits (5mm, 6mm , 8mm), and 10mm) and see which one is the closest fit in the gap. That will be the size to order.

Thank you for the responses. I measured it up like Saltram 31 advised and the answer is:

2" dia. gland follower minus 11/4" shaft dia. divided by 2 = 3/8" square -amazing and many thanks.
