I recently looked at an example of this boat and noticed a fine hairline crack forming a rectangle about 2" x 3" round the base of each chain plate. To the touch, the area round the chain plates felt to be raised by maybe 1/8 ie being pulled upward by the rigging. The rigging did not feel unusually tight.

Reading through the ST report on another second hand 336 also mentions chain plate cracks so it looks like a general weakness. They also mention re-inforcement

Does anyone know from personal experience how significant this is? Is there a known cure / mod, and is it peculiar to the Mk 1 or general to all 336 production?

Had a 336 (Foxy Lady) from 1995 (then 5 y.o) to 2000 and never any problems at all. Fantastic boat in fact all round, although only 10 y.o at the end so maybe that's when probs start happening.........?
