Hi I'm just about to make decision to buy moody 31 but will this boat take me safely for longer passage for example Iceland or shall I stay with my first choose which was rival 34
Thanks

I think you could go most places in most boats if they are suitably prepared and you gave the skills. Ask Mingming.

A Moody 31 is strongly built and sail well. A Rival might be a better sea boat judging by their reputation.

The Moody Owners website has a section for asking questions prior to a purchase.

size matters safety wise. prejudiced posters on here wnt accept it but a 40 ft benny would be safer than a 34 ft rival because the wave energy rewuired to capsize a boat goes up by the cube of the boat length.

Agree.

The chance of a capsize is virtually nil unless you intend to sail in the Southern ocean. Over 300 boats a year cross the Atlantic and I've never heard of a capsize, if somebody has please let us know.

The Moody 31 is a big boat for its size, with high freeboard and with a relatively wide and safe cockpit; not very fast but steady. I have no experience on the Rival 34 but it has a good reputation of go anywhere yacht.
