Money Saving Idea

I have hit on what would be a fantastic money saving scheme.

Lets all sell our real boats and just have "Virtual Boats" here on the forum. We can still have all the fun without the expense. We can have whatever boat we want - but to keep it "real" we should start with what we have now and go through a proper upgrade path ie ask other forum members their opinion about our prospective choices then announce that we have made our choice and are starting the hunt....then complain about timewasting brokers/sellers....move onto how bad the survey or surveyor culminating in the bold announcement that we have a new boat. I will personally be taking delivery of my Fleming 55 later this year, having worked my way through the entire Fairline range.

TCM can still have his Leopard, Byron can still be thinking about it, Pauline could still have her Riva (and George Martins Gullet as well if she wanted), Colin and Martyn Whiteley could still be boat owners and post accordingly. In fact MW could convert to petrol from the newly taxed diesel and submit a long post telling us how great it feels.

You guys on the Solent will always go out when its not busy, the Med boaters can still be there, Alistair can still zoom around Loch Lomond sniffing petrol fumes and Haydn can still take Harry down to the South West, completely poopooing everybody else on here and Learner can.......errrr.....(oh well I suppose he's already doing this anyway)

After a brief interlude we can start asking questions that the rest of the forum will recognise as the issues that are keeping us awake at night eg smoky exhausts, leaky bilges, fuel contamination, noisy outdrives (ouch). The other forum members who have already had this experience could post reassuring messages (usually starting "Don't worry Nick.....).

We could post on how our marina's ripping us off (without the real financial pain), how everything costs x10 because its "marinised" and how the socialist chancellor is going to bleed us dry.

Socially nothing will change, the various forum meets can still take place with copious drinking (MDL would just need to provide the beer tent - no berths required).

And the beauty of all this is that it will cost nothing (well except the beer of course)

Anybody want to play in my world......yes nurse I'm coming.........

Martyn

Mmmm... It does conjur up a Matrix style horror glimpse into the future, when you might be the only 'real' person on a such forum, and all the others are computer generated droid members designed solely to attract human members (but obviously failing).

Is all this 'cos your boats now 1000 miles away Martyn, and your getting withdrawal symptoms? Hope not 'cos I'm about to enter your world as well if it is.

(So much for my 'year off', I just bought a 'boats for sale under £20K' mag at lunchtime!!).

So, Boats under £20K got any diesels then?

Ah Mercruiser outdrives, know a bit about them, have spanners will travel!

San Miguel will do instead of Timothy Taylors!

Hopfully not less than £20K with diesels, or it will make my next project non viable.

After 20 knots from the 1.7 last time, I'm looking for a petrol powered 32ft Fairline, and hope to get 25 knots from quad Vetus saildrives! I've reserved the Feb 2005 slot in MBM already!

Cheers,

Ooooh noooo...just had this horrible vision of a virtual broker trying to sell me a virtual boat which a virtual surveyor has said needs squillions of pounds worth of virtual repair work so its virtually worthless and.......aaaaarghhhh....just woken up and its my boat theyre talking about and Im not sure if it was a virtual dream or a virtual nightmare so Im virtually knackered.........

Now then Nick....wot was the problem? /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Feeling left out......

Didn't mean to leave you or anyone else out Tony.

Sorry about the bad trip but we will have them occasionally if we want to make this virtual boating feel like the real thing. It seems to me that your virtual boatowners paranoia is pretty well developed already, all you need to do to balance it though is to get on your virtual boat with all that lovely virtual wood surrounding you and serenely cruise down the cyber Thames, don't forget to wave to Byron as you cruise serenely past.

See... thats better.....

Yes - I'll play!!

I also have an "Air Guitar". I can slip into the form any time I want and play as loud as I want without annoying the neighbours - and any piece any time, without fault!! Whats more, I don't have loads of gear to lug around and no "roady" to piss and moan about the weight of the gear. In fact this has enabled me to select a much better looking roady altogether!!
