Due to my weekend problems and for various other reasons I spent alot of time going in and out of Hamble, along with a lot of RIBs.

Now I assume alot of the RIBS were transporting people to their sailing boats in Cowes for the racing/festivities, but could someone explain way these people all felt it was quite acceptable to ignore (blatantly) the 6knkt NO WASH speed limit, a close second seemed to be the swordfish (I think) motor boats which all seemed to be travelling at warp speed with huge wash, would the extra 5 minutes it takes to navigate the entrance responsibly really cause them that much of an issue.

The other half now ranks RIB drivers the same as boy racers in McDonalds car park.

Rant over!!

RIBs are probably the worst offenders for speeding in Chi harbour too, though they're all beaten by the two cretins on jetskis that were hammering down from Emsworth the other week.

Yes, there is something about some (and I stress, some) RIB drivers, who seem to think that speed limits don't apply to them. They're quite a common sight on the Beaulieu River, particularly when they don't think the Harbourmaster is watching.

The problem is that a lot of them aren't going flat out, but exceeding the limit by 4 or 5 knots, which means they are just getting up onto the plane, and probably creating the maximum wash.

When I'm Prime Minister, they will all be going to the re-education camps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yesterday I took a leisurely trip up to Moodys to get some fuel - cheaper there as a visitor than at Port Hamble as an MDL berthholder...but thats another story.

Most peeps were well behaved, but I did pass one mobo who was kicking up a serious wash - so serious in fact, that I feared for the peeps in a small inflatable who were making towards the shore.

Why do they do it? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Just had 10 days in majorca, I think most people leave there brains at home when they go boating there all week we were either anchored in a bay or on a buoy in pollensa bay, where jet skis, ribs, and jet ribs pass you at 20ft down to say 6ft at 30 plus knots and dont have a care if there is someone else doing the same behind the boats there passing, they seem to wake board or ski wherever they like, especially the spanish flagged boats, seem they like it that way?.

This is the first time for years I have boated there and to be honest if its like that all the time then I wont bother again, at least in the uk when your anchored boats slow well before they stop to anchor, not there there still flat out right up to the last boat length.

What also amazed me was the lack of anchor lights on most yachts and mobos, apart from 2 fairlines which are both based in pollensa , as I walked around the marina which spent 2 nights anchored on a buoy about a mile from the marina, they left there nav lights on all nights, they also left there kids on board unsupervised swimming and dinghy riding not particularly very safely, one boat was a targa 40 the other a blue hulled 52, you know who you are!.
