Been out on one of them Raggie thingies for the first time this weekend. James let me have the helm for about an hour and a half, we nearly fell for it until he put me on rope pulling duty when we were tacking. Too much like hard work for me!;)

Great experience though, thanks James!:)

Tacking and stuff

my only foray into wind powered boats was the result of a five day course with a lady instructor, during the course we were shown how to recover the boat after a capsize and how to tack etc, then a one hour round the bay with her demonstrating the various things you have to do.Each of us was then given a single handed boat(I think a Laser?)and told to go practise which we did ,fortunatly I was alone the day I went out .I did have fun and capsized several times and recovered easily! On trying to get back in to the yacht club (which was in the lee of a hill)I had some difficulty, eventually I took a run at it and gained sufficient speed to approach the dockside rather to fast so I thought, this is going to be tricky, perhaps if I jump in the water and pull on the stern I can do it,unfortunatly the water was about ten foot deep and I submerged releasing the Laser which promtly swung about and went of on its own me swimming after it with the lady instructress falling about in hysterics!!This in America too!!Now I have a nice power boat!!
