Anyone cruising around Olbia this year will find that the previously free "wall" at Molo Brin is now under construction and no longer available.

Friends of ours who cruised Sardinia with us last year have returned to find that there are major works going on and the free berthing along the wall is not, nor will be an option.

Great shame, that was a good place to tie up for a few days given proximity to the town.

Anchoring available in the bay, apparently already causing chaos as yachts thinking they can return to tried and tested alongside berths.

What's wrong with Olbia marina then? Too expensive?

12.6 catamaran costs just over 200 euro per night in the summer, so yes!
Molo Brin was very convenient, not to mention free, and it's apparent from our friends who are now there that its being sorely missed as a great place to stop for a day or two for provisioning and popping into town for a while.

I put this info in another thread a week or so ago, but having found this one again thought I'd add it here for closure. The Molo Brin was supposed to have reopened on 1st August, the redevelopment appears just to be surfacing the car park and adding a walk way along the quay side. We were there around the 7/8/9th August and the wall was still closed, though people were sometimes using it. Its only the longer E-W part that is closed, the shorter N-S part is available.

The anchorage was fine, if cosy at times, and its very handy to be able to dinghy in to the supermarket. Someone we talked to in the anchorage said he'd been paying 49Euro/night for an 8m boat, but if your doing a crew change and need access to the airport you get a fair bit of that back in the free airport shuttle (and all the water you can use).
