no, not the Beatrix Potter variety! Several of my various ropes, eg the mainsheet, have magnificent splices attaching them to various blocks, etc, and are a fine shade of mucky green. Now, I usually wash ropes in the washing machine, but I dont want to remove them from their large and heavy attachments, as I couldnt even begin to splice them back again, and a knot wont look nearly as good. And anyway, the large, heavy, etc etc will wreck my machine, even padded out in socks.

I've tried soaking and scrubbing, and this ruins the ropes, and they're still green. Someone suggested pressure washing - does this work? A pressure washer costs £50!!!

Help, and thanks in advance

yes pressure washing does work, try to keep the warps tight and take time, use the lance at a spread rather than pencil and they should come up nice and clean.

I have not damaged any of mine yet, if I did I would put it down to the pressure washer showing up a weak spot and be happy to replace it.

B&Q washers are fine, they are not as heavy duty as kaarcher, but if you take care of them they have the same power. I left one in the shed over winter last year and it died, they don't like frost.
