Looked at the bow of the new Trader 42 today at SIBS. Not the best angle to get a picture, but the modification that wasn't required (apparently) to reduce spray is a little ugly. Does any other new boat has such a protrusion?

But isn't the Marlow possibly in a slightly different price bracket??
£1m v £1.6m?

On reflection if one can afford a million for a gentlemans yacht, perhaps the other half is easy to come by.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yes I saw that too and commented in a previous thread. If it is what we think it is, you have to give some credit to Trader for acting so quickly after the adverse test reports. My guess is that the Trader 42 is based on the old Trader 41+2 hull and anyone who knows that boat knows that it is a very wet boat too

Having checked out both boats on Friday I don't think you can compare the two. Entry level of £1 million plus for the Marlow and £350K for the Trader. Of course the Trader will come out worse in a comparison.

And why do people surmise that things will just fall off the Trader? Nothing has fallen off mine in 7 years.

Yes agreed, the Marlow was fabulous, but also had a good look at the Skagen 50 - very very nice boat indeed for very reasonable money. I was seriously tempted! Well I would have been if I had the money /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

acting so quickly - huh? why give em credit for bodging an add-on that they surely shoulda known was needed looong before the mbm test ?

typical head-in-the sand, til there's no alternative stuff, I'd say.

Goochi - after the Marlow the Skagen looked very dowdy and if I remember it was only about 20 per cent less than the Malow.

If I had the choice between the two I would just sell another Grandchild and go for the Marlow

hardly 'another descent' is it eh?, unless yours is the same, but into Trader praising.

a nice new model? hull designed especially? years in development, and err wet as a bathtub

Just b/c your one was ok'ish doesn't mean they're a marvellous brand- just as Gludy's wouldn't necessarily indicate that every one was a duffer; BUT - combine Gludy's with the attitude, workmanship, and the scale/stupidity of the problems etc, and I spose it's very hard to think on much good to say about them, except perhaps that someone had one, and nothing fell off - wooo!

Don't know where you get an entry level price of £1m on the Marlow from. The list price for the Marlow 57 is about €1.35m which is about £675k + VAT at the present exchange rate. In addition the basic spec of the Marlow is very comprehensive although I'm sure it's possible to go silly and spend a lot more. That basic price compares very favourably to the Fleming 55 @ £800K + VAT for example
The Marlow 57 is not comparable to the Trader 42. It is a much larger boat

Yes, /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I made a boat out of card board for my daughter and needed a flange like that , it was to hold a rubber band in place to keep the two halves from falling apart when wet.

Mmm, not sure about dowdy! Agreed, the Marlow was fabulous - but I really liked the Skagen, just seemd 'right' to me somehow. I could certainly see myself in one (probably someone else's)

Deleted User - Sorry if I got it wrong. I Understood the Marlow guy to say that entry level was $1.9 million which equates to about £1 millionish - I was more interested in the fantastic finish and all the fixtures and fittings on the Marlow. If its only £675K + VAT it is a real steal.

The price of the show boat was $1.9m but that was because it was absolutely loaded with extras like a 3rd engine, 2nd generator, stern thruster, water maker, fancy nav kit and probably a lot more besides which I did'nt see
Yup I have the pricelist and the base price is around $1.35m + VAT and the spec included for that is pretty comprehensive too

Do you /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif think they would take a Trader in part exchange /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I agree with that. We looked at the Marlow first and the Skagen second which was probably the wrong way round. The list price of the Skagen is around €800k + VAT if I remember which is about £550k + VAT which as you say is about 20% less. The Marlow looks a hell of a lot more boat for the money
I was a bit disappointed with the Skagen. The saloon was poky and that size of boat should have a midships master cabin. The decor looked plain as well
