My brother has just finished building a 1/10th scale model of a Bristol Pilot Cutter and has given it to me to rig. I have no rig plan or drawings just some photos of real boats. I have managed to puzzle out most of the details but I am stuck with the shrouds.
Can anyone explain to me how the top of the shrouds are attached to the mast?
Grateful for any help.

The "Olga"is based at the Maritime museum in Swansea .Im sure they could help you out.I would phone if you intend to travel there as she isnt allways there.

There are some pictures of sailing pilot cutters in my blog if you want to click on the link.(click on any pics you want in larger format)

You've got Peter Stuckey's book, of course?

Your post reminds me of a silly incident of long ago. I made a model of a Colchester Smack, whilst crewing on board a Bristol Channel pilot cutter, but the late Hervey Benham pointed out that I had rigged her like a pilot cutter, not like a smack!

Lowers:

Soft eyes round the mast at the hounds, if three shrouds a side, the forward pair on each side are seized togther with a racking whilst the swifter has a spliced eye.

If two shrouds a side, separate splices all round.

Starboard forward shroud on first, then port forward, then starboard aft, then port aft. Forestay over the lot of course.

Cap shrouds have eye splices over a shoulder just below the cap.

Soft eyes are parcelled and served and tarred.
