passing through hook spit on route to the spile bouy over the weekend barely had 2 feet under the keel when 6 very large motor boats bare down on us, most of which I must say passed at a reasonable speed but a minute or 2 later another 2 pass at high speed produing a very large amount of wash, normally it doesnt bother me, live and let live but jees they must realise if there's less than 2 mts of water a yacht will need a large chunk of it, and if your creating 2-3 feet of wash well...... thought the keel was gonna come through the boat!
Rant over, and thanks to the considerate chaps that slowed down :)

Always disappointing when another boat owner, mobo or raggie, is so ignorant that he either doesn't care about his fellow boaters, or can't be bothered to learn about boats, so he understands the needs and limitations of other vessels. My other pet hate is when you do slow down and/or give another boat a wide berth, or change course for someone, then when you put your hand up they look the other way.

It wasn't me honest. We went to Ramsgate via Hook spit on Saturday around 2.00pm, quite uncomfortable with a southerly blowing and returned over to Southend airshow at around 2.00pm again. 3-4 metres under the hull both ways.

Repentant raggie

Had two glorious days out on the Crouch this week. There were a fair few motorboatists around enjoying their speed, although I am not sure what you do next after you have been to Fambridge and back to Burnham in ten minutes. Anyway on several occasions I started muttering about "twassocks" a la Dylan, only to have them slow down as they passed me. All waved, even the youngster with two delicious specimens of the female on board who he was undoubtedly trying to impress.

However, whilst repentant, I did have a substantial reversion when some fishing boat set out at breakfast time yesterday morning and whose wash hit me just as I was pouring my tea.....

Incidentally the police were launching a pair of personal water craft at Burnham on Thursday. I was going to comment along the lines of "if you can't beat 'em......" when I thought better of it.

and an apology

Oh and I had to make a huge apology to the fisherman anchored off Foulness Island whose launch I nearly t-boned whilst playing with the tacking possibilities of my autohelm. Completely failed to see them under the genoa and it was only when the autohelm tacked us that I realised they were dead ahead about thirty yards away. Must have given them a heart attack. You can be sure I kept a good watch after that!

I am not one to rant about Mobos, as generally they are at least as considerate as the rag brigade....BUT anchored off stone point on saturday/sunday, whilst standing in my tender trying to get the outboard on/off. I was amazed at the number of Mobos that just charged down, saw me standing in the tender holding on to the side of the boat and passed about 3-4 m away at 7+ knots, all coming out of or going in to Titchmarsh, it doesnt take the brains of an archbishop to realise that the wash being kicked up was going to be hazardous to the bloke balancing in the dinghy, not even an attempt to slow down and barely a look back to see if i had survived.
