Oh the shame of it - daughter came back today with RYA level 1 certificate after succesfully helming her own Oppi and starts level 2 tomorrow. The sad thing is that she loves every minute of it - where's the outboard? where's the fumes? where's the excessive wake?
Seriously we're delighted she's enjoying it so much and now will need to get her a sailing dinghy - any recommendations for a good dinghy type for a ten year old?

A large proportion of the fun for kids is the social side of sailing, so it's probably a good idea to check what boats the local club sail.
Then she'll want to join, then she won't want to go with you when there's club events & so on.
The Topper, Laser & RS outfits all have variations on dinghies aimed at kids. Worth checking them out.

Dan's advice is good. Find out which local SC has the best kids programme, get her signed up and find out what boats they sail. There might be some club boats available, so ownership is not necessary from day one - you can wait until you and she are sure the bug has bitten.

Something similar happened to a friend of mine (a raggie). Within a few years his daughter was winning more silverware in his boat than he was!

Aaagh! - The devil's spawn - at least she has seen the light and is moving over from the darkside.

The Topper, Laser Pico, RS Feva, and the good old Mirror are all popular with the kids at our club. The Feva lot tend to be more teenagers than 10 year olds, but it won't be long....
As above see what the other kids are sailing.
