I never thought I'd find myself on this forum. After 5 years of totally satisfying sailing in the Med with my 23 ft sailer, we are now thinking of moving inland but within spittin' distance of the R. Ebro, a wide and fast piece of water which flows down through Spain. I'm now thinking of giving up sailing and buying a motor boat. Is there such a thing as a planing hull but with the comfort of a wheel house or cabin and a galley and a loo? An o.b. is a definite plus (I think?) because of the hooge amount of weed that's washed down - I guess an inboard prop would seize if a large amount of weed hit the prop??? I'll lurk and go back thro' the history here because this is all new and unexpected fo me. My tks go out to all interested souls who keep these fora going. Rgds.

Many years ago I was a sailor - Then I discovered inland Europe. Since then I have met many similar converts.

You must decide what you want. A riverboat that occasionaly goes to sea, a seaboat that occasionaly goes inland, or a compromise.

My compromise is a low air draft displacent boat with 2 naturaly aspirated diesels that looks like a seaboat outside but inside is a 2 bedroom cottage,

Nice boat and a good idea; I once had a 22 ft motorsailer- a Cox 22 - very staid and underpowered but I liked the bungalow effect (I can't believe I said that!). The Ebro flows at a guess of three knots but when they open a sluice upstream it can be twice that with enormous amounts of water, debris, floating islands etc coming down......I suppose this is similar throughout Europe, it can't be unusual, and if out in the boat you have to take appropriate action (like mooring in a backwater)..? All very interesting...

What about an Aquador 23HT? Ok, no Outboard but a leg that can be lifted.

Take a look at this months MBM - don't know what your budget is, but that looks like a boat that would suit a raggie, and fit your requirements. The Antaris.

Hi Furuner,

What about some of the Peche Promenade type boats like Antares or Merry Fischers. Tyhey seem spot on. The Aquador 23HT is a top spec boat but maybe OTT.

Cheers

Oh dear....my wife wouldn't understand..... you can't go froma 23 foot sailer to a £38 grand momobo..... at least I can't, nice idea though. Presumably MBM covers all pockets, genres etc... YBW seems a fairly catholic stable. Seriously folks is this the best UK mag for motor boating? are there others for the more modest budgets (say GBP15000 tops)??
