Well I can certainly point you in the right direction for this if you want e-mail and web access on the move. We have just bought a shed load of Blackberry's they are the new 7230 with colour screen and are the dog's danglies. We got them on a business tariff but you can get them from the carphone warehouse on T-mobile, who are the only service providers that support them for tjhe general public at this time. The unit is a phone, e-mailer, address book, memo pad, task list, calculator, calender, alarm clock + other stuff. This has revolutionised our communications and is brilliant.

The unit is £300 - £400 BUT if you get it on T-mobile 200 minute (free to any other mobile, land line, excluding premium numbers) anytime package for £29 you get the unit FREE at the moment, but must sign up for a minimum of 12mths. You can even surf the forum on there and check weather e.t.c on the browser. You will also need a data package, these are available in 3mb bundles for £5, getting cheaper the more you get, 3mb is Ok for e-mails and the odd surfing without downloading pic's but you would need to see how you got on, you can change the data package each month up or down. At the moment they are giving 100mb free as a bonus if you take a £10 6mb package, until the end of October, this would give you a good few weeks to use it all the time and find what suits you best. The 100mb stops at the end of October and then you will go back to whatever package you want.

You can see the unit here :-

Trust me they are very simple to use compared to my SonyEricsson P800 !! that really was a nightmare to set up. I have only had mine for a couple of days, but we have someone from Blackberry coming next week to show us how to get the best from them. If you decide to get one I will be able to give you any help you may need to get the best from it /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I was talking to some of the O2 reps at the Twickenham bash the other night about the Blackberry. They all use the mono version (by choice) because readability is better, and battery life much better. Do not think it is available to the "public" yet because you need your own server to receive e-mail. The XDA looks a much better alternative for Joe Public IMO

Have I missed out on a piss up then? /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Terry I have had the XDA, and I can assure you the Blackberry is Brilliant. It is available NOW at the Carphone warehouse. and as I said FREE on the 200 minute package. It gives you a new e-mail address for that machine and can also intercept up to 10 other e-mail accounts e.g. btinternet, hotmail e.t.c. The set up for the additional accounts is a piece of cake. As for the battery life, it will last for days and days, it takes 10 mins a day to keep it fully topped up. As for the B&W being better, well that's because he does not have a colour one /forums/images/icons/wink.gif SWMBO has B&W and is jealous as well. The screen is very clear in colour, plus the B&W ones need to use hands free for the phone function, the Colour one (7230) has it built in like a normal handset. The keyboard is the best feature, it enables fast typing unlike the use of a stylus on PDA's e.g XDA. The XDA is good for more complex business use e.g. a mini computer, but the Blackberry is more of a communicator, light and easy to use.

You said this about the Blackberry,

Can an e-mail address be set up for the P800 as well?

Yes I get my BT internet e-mail's copied to the unit. Go to :-

http://www.sonyericsson.com/uk/

On the 2nd line down from the top you will see 'phone configurators', click on it and follow the instructions, it sets it all up for you via a text message to the phone /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

IMPORTANT, CHECK YOUR CHARGER ASAP!!

PRODUCT RECALL: CST-13 phone charger
Sony Ericsson has identified a fault with one of its UK 3-pin CST-13 phone chargers and, as a precautionary measure, has activated a process to have all potentially failing units returned.
The charger is manufactured in Thailand by Delta, an external supplier, and has the identification number BML 162 099/3 R1A printed on the socket face, along with "made in Thailand by Delta". The charger has been included with the following Sony Ericsson Phone Models: T68i, T300, T310, T610 and a number of Bluetooth handsfree and other Sony Ericsson accessories. The charger has also been sold separately.

There have been a limited number of incidents in the UK, where a pressure build-up in the charger has caused the top plastic part of the charger to brake off, with the danger of hitting someone. If the charger does break apart, the electronics of the charger may be exposed thereby creating a risk of giving a person touching these parts an electric shock. In such circumstance, there could also be a risk of fire, if the charger is in proximity of flammable material.

Consumers who possess this charger should stop using it immediately, remove it from the socket and contact the Sony Ericsson Customer Care Centre on 0800 587 6072. A free replacement charger will be dispatched, together with a pre-paid envelope for the user to return the charger to Sony Ericsson for inspection.

Thanks for the warning Pete,

Vodafone have sent me 2 messages about this problem, the first saying there is a problem check immediately, the second saying they know by the serial no. that my charger is not affectted.

I thought that was well handled by Vodafone.

Whats the best FREE e-mail account to get, I'm not happy with my Talk21.com one?

Try hotmail, it can be obtained by going to http://www,hotmail.com. I am not sure if that is available on the P800, best check, but it is accepted on the Blackberry. The hotmail address is free so you can keep it as a spare even if it doesn't work.
